Is it possible to buy heirloom gear as a new player?

Like, can I buy a gametime token, sell it for gold, and purchase heirloom gear?

Yes, if you get gold via wow token you go to the Under City and buy the heirlooms in the Rogue Quarter. Then join any guild and when you hit honored you can buy the missing pieces.

Or at the most, get weapons. It can be a real pain in the ass when you're level 40 with a level 25 weapon. But being level 40 with lvl 25 pants? not that big of a deal.

Yes, the main problem is the gold needed to buy them but if you are planning to earn gold like that you wont have that problem.
Also as the people above mentioned you'll need some rep with your guild to buy the Pants, Cape and the Helm (if you dont have one can always join a social/casual guild).
Others are can be bought in Ironforge/undercity from the heirloom vendors

You can also acquire several of the heirloom armor pieces through running events at the Darkmoon Faire. No gold required. The Faire returns November 6th (IIRC).

There's a vendor (Daenrand Dawncrest) in the fairground that sells a number of the hierloom items (and upgrade token) in exchange for Darkmoon Prize Tickets which you earn by doing quests and playing the games at the Faire.

I thought you had have a toon to a certain level before getting heirloom gear?

I'd recommend against it, but yes. Leveling and gearing up is much more fun for your first time, you'll be super excited when a sick weapon drops and stuff like that. Whereas with heirlooms you'll just not care at all and sell it.

The boost is one time. Heirlooms are forever

Good question that seemed to be already answered. Though, best advice and I know how much of a drag leveling thorough Burning Crusade can be, play through it all once without any heirlooms.

Yep, my friend came back to play and I just mailed him 20k and he got himself all kitted out.

You don't need guild rep for all of the heirlooms. That only applies to the Back, Helm, and Pants. It's also insanely easy to hit honored with a guild.

Please stop spreading lies. OP explained how he plans to obtain gold, not to mention that with the legion boost you can get 1 char to 100 and farm some herbs/ore for gold in no time.

Very few of the heirlooms are gated behind guild rep, and the guild rep required can be reached in no time while levelling.
